Dollar Find Friday!!

Welcome to the very first Dollar Find Friday! Each Friday I will be featuring a tutorial on how to alter something that I have found for a dollar (or less). Today's tutorial is about this beautiful heart tin that I found at my local Dollar Tree. I decided to make a Valentine's Day present for my husband with it. Inside are 10 small wooden hearts, each with a different reason why I love him so much. On top of the little hearts is a larger wooden heart that says "Just 10 of the million reasons why I love you"

Supplies:
Tin from Dollar Tree

10 small wooden hearts

1 larger wooden heart

thin black ribbon

tacky glue

black acrylic paint

ribbon (also $1 from Michaels)
Flourishes stamp set by TAC

Sahara Sand ink pad

Basic Grey ink pad

10 reasons printed from computer (make sure that they will fit on small hearts)

Title (to fit on the larger heart)

10 pictures (to go with reasons, make sure that they are small enough to fit on small hearts.)

Sahara Sand cardstock

Step 1- stamp a flourish stamp over the reasons and also the title. I stamped off first before stamping over them so that the ink would be light enough.

Step 2- Trace your hearts over the reasons and title. It's ok if it's not perfect, you are going to cut inside the line.

Step 3- Do the same thing on the pictures

Step 4- Stamp another flourish stamp in basic grey around the outside of the heart. Make sure that you don't stamp on the words or you won't be able to read what it says. It looks a little scary right now, but I promise it will look better!

Step 5- Paint both sides of your wooden hearts with the black acrylic paint. I did two coats to make sure that the wood didn't show through.

Step 6- While you are waiting for the paint to dry cut out the pictures, reasons, and title.

Step 7- Adhere the reason on one side of the heart and matching picture on the other. I used just regular tape adhesive and it worked great. Also adhere the title to the larger heart.

Step 8- Measure the this black ribbon so that it will be able to wrap all the way around the heart. Do the same for all hearts. Then using your tacky glue, glue the ribbon around the hearts.

Step 9- trace the bottom of heart tin onto Sahara Sand card stock. Trim to fit in the inside of the tin and adhere it with adhesive.

Step 10- Using wider ribbon, measure to fit the inside of tin and adhere down.

Here is what the inside of the tin looks like. It's hard to tell from this picture but the outside of the tin is more of a sahara and black but here it looks like black and white.

This is the finished product.

Wow! Great tutorial! I would have never thought to have lined the inside of the tin at all. It really finishes it. Great job! Thanks for the inspiration!
